LAKE PLACID:
AN OLYMPIC HISTORY
DVD DOCUMENTARY NOW AVAILABLE
|
In the annals of the Winter Olympics, their names are legendary; their feats without equal. Stroll through the tiny village of Lake Placid and you'll pass the speed skating oval where Eric Heiden won a record five gold medals in 1980, and the Olympic Center, site of the U.S. Hockey Team's Miracle on Ice. Just down the road sits the bobsled track where Lake Placid skeleton racer Jim Shea trained to win gold in 2002, seventy years after his grandfather Jack won two golds in speed skating.
But making history is nothing new to the 2,800 year-round residents of this upstate New York mountain village. Over the course of a century, their can-do spirit and small-town optimism have made Lake Placid the home of the nation's first winter resort; the site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics; and the home of the U.S. Olympic Training Center, where today's athletes train for the miracles of tomorrow.
Featuring never-before-seen footage and rare audio recordings, Lake Placid: An Olympic History is the story of America's Winter Sports Capital – where the spirit of the Olympics lives on, every day.
